It’s still sinking in, the loss of Jack Layton. There are no words to express how I feel, how my heart aches, for a man I have never even met, who not only had a profound impact on my life, but that of Canadians. For the first time in my life I was excited about politics, was amazed to see right there in front of my very own eyes, my vote making a difference. He painted a vision of Canada where I would be proud to be a part of. Jack spoke from the heart, he connected with people. His smile and passion for social justice and equality was like no other. He cared about people, all people, from all walks of life. He did not use fear tactics, but a smile to fight the good fight. You inspire me, you will never be forgotten.
I end this post in sharing an insert from his letter to Canadians.
“My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.” – Jack Layton
