The Great Food Revolution is a very informative documentary from the cbc. It gives one insight, a behind the scenes look of where ones food comes from in the grocery store, from marketing, ruthless competition, how certain products are created, and how they find their way to your plate. I think its a great wake-up call about how many resources are depleted from packaged foods found on the shelves of a supermarket (I am not even sure if this was the documentaries intention, but its all i could think about).
Just think about it, you don’t see commercials, or get flyer’s each week from your local farmer or farmers market pushing a new ethnic sauce with a fancy label or catchy tune. When you shop locally you see what the farmers have, whats in season, and have your creativity run wild from there with what you are going to make with it. The last 10 minutes of the documentary is on the locavore movement, which is more enlightening. Anyways, i think its something worth watching, just remember WE ARE THE CONSUMERS so we hold the key to change. This weekend try checking out your local farmers market and get connected. If you are not sure where the nearest farmers market is, click here to find a farmers market near you.
