Don’t let the 17 degree weather in Montreal fool you, we all know that that time of year again is just around the corner, with frost on our windows, and the piercing wind nipping at our rose colored cheeks. When we get out of the frigid conditions, what most of us want is to be surrounded in the warmth in our humble abodes. Some of us pay for heat, others have all inclusive, and not much thought typically goes into how much energy one is consuming to heat our living space (especially since we not responsible for paying for it).
Last year I lived in Baie-Comeau, and after realizing just how much energy it took to heat my place, i decided to make a few changes that were not only good for my wallet by wonderful for the environment as well by reducing my imprint. I kept my place at 15, and when i came home i just put on some socks, a toque, and layered up my friends. Pretty soon i got accustomed to the temperature, I mean aside from the fact i looked a little hefty in my layers all was well, I was not out to impress anyone. Seeing as I am in QC, i noticed that Hyrdo-QC has some helpful programs for you to actually see where your energy is coming from. The first is on Sustainable Development, with some cute informative interactive games and the second is a Energy Wise Home Diagnostic, that breaks down your energy consumption and gives you helpful tips in ways that you can reduce your consumption. Yes, yes, some of you may be thinking, what concern does a electricity company get out of having thier profits reduced, but really with no plantet to live on there will be no economy. So i just thought i would link up some accessible tips. If you do not have access to your bill, ie. you place is inclusive, just be aware to turn down your thermostat or turn off your heaters when you leave the house, or leave the room, and SWEATERS DO WONDERS!! Don’t reach to turn on the heat, reach for nice wholesome sweater.
