So I walked into IGA the other day, and this was what greeted me in the isles. I thought I had seen it all. What does this say about the society we live in? If its wrapped it must be fresh, or somehow better. That’s something I see often, plastic wrapped produce. Have we been conditioned to think that if it comes in a package it is worth more, even though the product inside remains the same? I can’t quite “wrap” my head around it… Bad jokes aside as consumers we need to take a look at our choices and why we make them. No longer wander the isles or farmers markets just accepting things the way they are, in one neat package. I feel its a matter of not just becoming aware, and using your purchasing power to send a message, but to actually send a message. I ask that next time you are out shopping for food, and something like the above picture that turns your stomach, that you write your grocer, write to that company, share with them how you feel, show them your passion, bestow upon them the memo that plastic is not the new fresh.
Have a lovely sustainable day.
