Ive seen some really cool soaps that are felted over with some cute designs, the felt they are in act as an exfoliater for your skin, and you can reuse them as a scrub pad after.  I dont have a felting needle, nor do I know if the eco-fi felt (100% post consumer recycled plastic) I use functions the way the regular stuff does…so utilizing my limited stitch skills and materials, I thought i would try making my very own  “heart-felt sud stud” for Valentines (or just because). For the design I made, I left a slit in the back so I can keep putting more soap in when the other runs out.

Materials:

1) scissors 2) felt scraps 3) thread and a needle 4) soap (*collect all your scraps and odds and ends from your old bars)

How To:

1) With your felt cut two identical shapes for your birdy(sud stud).  I used a tear-drop shape.  Make it any shape size, animal, object you want.

2) With your scraps cut out 2 wings for the front, a small triangle for the beak, and a small heart(for the back). * Be sure to make a slit in the back piece, so that you can reuse your sud stud over and over again :)

3) Stitch in your eyes.  I find the sleepy look works well, though if i was using thinner thread, i would have added some eyelashes.  Then stitch in the beak, wings, then on the back stick the heart upside down where the bum bum is.

4) Cut out a chunk of soap that will fit into your sud stud. * Or collect all the scraps of soap bars and use these instead :)

5) Line up both the front and the back, and stitch your creation together.  I find for most things, i enjoy using the blanket stitch, it looks fancy…but its really easy to do.

6) Place your new found love in your kitchen, bathroom sink, bath, or shower and enjoy.

Have a lovely sustainable day.
